We've been gearing up for this a long time and today was the day of her first donation. Weighing in at 49.8lbs Skye is just on the cusp of being able to donate a full pint each visit safely so today she donated a half pint to see how she handles it.
As always Skye was an attention whore lol, loving the love and loving the treats. What she doesn't love however is giving up full control, yup, anyone who's tried to help me trim her nails in the past know what I'm talking about. So she was given a bit of sedation. LOL She was then given a bit more sedation. LMAO She was then temporarily snowed with another drug to get the job done, I can't recall the name of the drugs but the last one was easily reversed, after I trimmed her nails of course hee hee hee. Next time we'll know what works and she won't need so much.
I can't say enough about how wonderful the staff were with her. They were fabulous at shaping her behaviour to lay on her side and to relax. My girl is so smart that part didn't take long at all. If it weren't for her needing to be held down to prevent any chance of movement during the withdrawal, we could have gone drug free. Perhaps one day she'll be there.
Here's some pics and hopefully some video of the process. If you ever thought of having your pet donate blood to help save other dogs in need, you can find a link on my Links I Like page at this site. I;ll try to put the link here also. animalemerg.com/home/blood-donor-program/
